Where each brand wins

Cherokee wins on fit options. Three inseams and a run to 6XL mean the WW110 fits short, tall and plus-size wearers without hemming or hoping. The twill is poly-rayon with a little spandex: soft, two-way stretch, and the line most dress codes already name.

Dickies wins on traditional fabric. The 86206 is 55 percent cotton with no spandex. It feels like workwear rather than athleisure, it does not rely on a stretch fiber to keep its shape, and it comes in three lengths. The cost is wrinkles and no give.

Hanes wins on stretch and price feel. Hanes describes Cool Comfort moisture-wicking fabric, Fresh IQ odor control and fabrics built for "multiple wash and wear needs" on its scrubs page. The jogger carries the most spandex of the three pants. What holds it back is range: one inseam per style and sizes to 3XL on the pages we read. Hanes lists the HBP103 in 80 percent polyester, 17 percent rayon and 3 percent spandex, a straight leg with a drawstring over an elastic waistband, two deep hand pockets and one utility pocket, plus its Cool Comfort moisture wicking and odor control. It is the cheapest pant here at around $20. The limits are the ones in the table: one 30 in inseam and sizes to 3XL.

4. Hanes Comfort Fit Women's Scrub Joggers HSB101 — the stretchy jogger

If you want the most stretch, the HSB101 cargo jogger is 90 percent polyester and 10 percent spandex per Hanes, with two hand pockets, two cargo pockets and cuffed ankles. It has one 29 in inseam and sizes to 3XL. Around $20.

5. Dickies EDS Signature Women's V-Neck Scrub Top 86706 — the Dickies match

This is the top Dickies pairs with the 86206 pant, in the same 55 percent cotton brushed poplin. Three pockets including a knit interior pocket, a 27 in center back and XXS to 5XL. It wrinkles if it sits in the dryer, and there is no stretch.
