Scrub Brands Compared: What the Higher Price Actually Buys

Most of the price gap between scrub brands buys three things: more stretch, more pockets on the pants, and a softer fabric feel. It does not buy a wider size range or petite and tall lengths, which the budget lines offer too. We read the product pages of seven lines, from FIGS and Jaanuu down to Dickies, and the blends are closer than the prices.

The short version. Pay a tier up for stretch if you lift, turn and reach all shift. Pay the top tier for pockets only if you would fill them. The rest of a premium price is mostly cut, color range and brand.

Seven lines, read off each brand's own page

Every fabric, size and pocket cell is copied from the brand's own page for the item named, read in September 2026. Tier is relative within this set, set from each brand's own list price: $ is the lowest here, $$$ the highest. Prices move weekly; tiers rarely do. Petite and tall lengths come from the matching pant pages:

• FIGS: the Zamora jogger
• Cherokee: the CK110A jogger and WW110 pant
• Healing Hands: the Tori pant
• Dickies: the di86206 pant shown on the 86706 page

The Barco page lists the 5105 in regular fit and we did not read a Barco pant page, so the table claims no petite or tall there. All seven items are women's styles; men's cuts differ, and our men's scrubs guide covers them.

Where the extra money actually goes

1. Stretch. FIGS, Barco One and Cherokee Infinity carry 5 to 7 percent spandex and describe four-way, 360 or stretch-poplin movement. The two budget twills run 2 to 3 percent and say two-way. The Dickies poplin lists no spandex at all. If your shift is boosting, turning and reaching overhead, this is the difference you feel.
2. Pant pockets. Jaanuu's Kait jogger lists ten pockets, including two hidden card pockets; FIGS's Zamora lists six. The workwear tops sit at two to four. Pocket-heavy joggers are where the top tier most visibly out-builds the rest.
3. Fabric hand. The premium blends swap polyester for rayon or nylon: Jaanuu's UltraSOFT is 65 percent rayon, and Jaanuu's fabric page calls it a performance knit. That is a comfort choice. None of the seven pages gives a durability figure.

What the top tier does not buy is range. FIGS and Cherokee WW Revolution both run to 6XL, while the Kait jogger stops at 3X. Six of the seven lines offer petite and tall pant lengths, and FIGS and Jaanuu go further by printing the inseams: 26.5, 28.5 and 30.5 inches on the Zamora, 27, 29 and 31 inches on the Kait.

What the price does not buy

• Patient protection. FIGS and Jaanuu describe Silvadur antimicrobialantimicrobial finishA chemical treatment applied to fabric to slow the growth of odour-causing bacteria on the garment itself. Treated fabric is not an infection-control measure, does not protect the wearer or the patient, and typically weakens with repeated laundering. Treat it as an odour claim about the garment and nothing more. technology; FIGS says it inhibits the microorganisms that cause odor and fabric damage. Cherokee calls Infinity's PROTX2 finish odor-fighting. Those are brand claims about the textile, not infection control, and they do not change how you wash scrubs after a shift.
• A proven longer life. Nurse forum threads split hard on whether premium lines outlast workwear lines, and no brand page here backs either side with a number.
• Dress-code approval. Many units set colors by role, whatever the label. See what scrub colors mean.

What matters on a 12-hour shift

• Recovery, not just stretch. Stretch that does not spring back leaves baggy knees and seat by the end of a shift. Spandex is the fiber meant to do that work, and every page above lists it to the percent.
• Pocket placement over pocket count. A thigh pocket you can reach gloved and standing beats three you cannot.
• Jogger or straight leg. Joggers keep hems off the floor; straight legs suit anyone who wears pants over clogs. Either way, buy the inseam that fits rather than hemming.
• Care label vs your wash. FIGS asks for a cold wash inside-out and a low tumble dry. If you wash hot, read the label before you pay for the fabric.
• Finish claims as claims. Treat antimicrobial and odor-fighting language as a note about smell between washes.
